If a bath remodel is on your wish list for the coming months, chances are you've got a lot on your mind.

How, when and to what degree you want your bathroom remodeled are important factors to discuss with the members of your household before you commit to any one plan.

Please let us offer you these tips for planning a smooth remodel of one of the most important rooms in your house:

  1. Name a budget. Take a careful look at how much money you would like to spend on a project. Many customers find renovation projects stressful--usually because they're worried about the money. If you take the time to plan your budget ahead, and contact us for advice on the details, you're more likely to be happy with the end result.
  2. Figure out what you don't like about your bath as it is now. It's easy to say that you want to change something. But it's not always easy to say why you don't like it. Think about the appliances, wall placement, textures and lighting. Which of these features would you like to change most? Looking at design magazines can help.
  3. Can your remodel help you save money in household utilities? If there is a way to cut your monthly bills down by reducing the amount of water or electricity you use, this is the perfect time to implement it.  The biggest water consumers in your house are likely to be your bathroom sink, toilet, shower and tub.  Can any of those be upgraded to a more eco-friendly version? Is there a way to bring natural light into the room so you don't need to turn the light on so often? We'd be happy to help you discuss some of these options.

As the website Greenerideal.com suggests:

Most showers consume 15% to 20% of water in a home with most of it being heated. A normal shower head has a flow rate of about two and a half gallons per minute. Changing it with a low flow head, say 1.6 to 2 gallons every minute, will result in a substantial amount of saving in water usage while still offering adequate cleansing power.

4. How can you get more ventilation in your bathroom? Mildew and mold spring from trapped moisture in your house--even in a dry climate like ours. Improving the ventilation in your bathroom will make your house a healthier place to be.
